Justice League star Ben Affleck last night revealed, via a heartfelt post on his official Facebook account, that he has been undergoing rehabilitation for alcohol addiction.
The actor’s emotional Facebook status was met with a flood of support and kind messages from fans and well-wishers.
In the post, Affleck says that he wants his children to grow up knowing that there’s “no shame in getting help when you need it,” and that he wants his words to be “a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.”
Aflleck, who received backlash from superhero movie fans for his role last year as Batman in Batman V Superman, also thanks Jennifer Garner for her continued support.
The couple were married for ten years and have three children together but separated in 2015, issuing a statement to E! News, which read: "We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time."
Affleck’s actions in sharing these intimate details of his struggle with addiction serve as reassurance for anyone who is battling addiction themselves, that it’s OK to seek out help and support.
Fair play to you, Ben. We wish you all the best with your recovery.
