Jackie Chan celebrates Oscar win after over 200 films

After working in the film industry for 56 years, Chan Kong-sang – known to you and us by his working name, Jackie Chan – has been awarded an honorary Oscar for his ‘extraordinary achievements’.

The 62-year-old action star was awarded an honorary Oscar at the 2016 Governors Awards at the Hollywood and Highland Center, Los Angeles.

“Jackie Chan has the wisdom of the East and the discipline of a master martial artist,” said Tom Hanks, who presented Chan with the award along with Michelle Yeoh and Chris Tucker.

“I broke so many bones - finally this is mine!” said Chan, clutching the golden statue describing the moment as a “dream”.

The star, who has 134 acting credits, 45 producer credits and 17 director credits according to IMDb, continued “My dad always said, ‘Son, you get so many movie awards in the world, when are you going to get one of these?’ Then I just look at my dad. ‘Ha, ha, ha. Dad, I only make comedy action movies’.

In the gushing speech he also thanked his home city of Hong Kong, the nation of China – in which he’s made the majority of his 200-and-counting films – and Hollywood, “for all of those years teaching me so many things, and also make me a little bit famous. I’m just honoured to be here.”

Messages of congratulation soon started pouring in from other ‘senior’ action stars...

Congratulations to my friend Jackie Chan for his honorary Oscars!

Chan isn’t set to ease up on his film work any time soon; he’s currently working on 10 film and animation productions set for 2017.

Here’s to you, Chan.
