Wisdom from The Stand

Stephen King is a man of many many words and his iconic novel The Stand was full of them. In fact, at a whopping 1,153 pages, it remains his longest to date.

And in-between all of the finely drawn characters and chaotic situations, there's an awful lot of great wisdom to remember. Here are the 15 greatest examples:

“A person can't change all at once.”

“If we don't have each other, we go crazy with loneliness. When we do, we go crazy with togetherness.”

“The place where you made your stand never mattered. Only that you were there...and still on your feet.”

“People who try hard to do the right thing always seem mad.”

“Your first impulse is to share good news, your second is to club someone with it.”

“No one can tell what goes on in between the person you were and the person you become.”

“They say bachelors have all the fun. Not so. You just get old and full of sand, nasty.”

“A man who loves money is a bastard, someone to be hated. A man who can't take care of it is a fool. You don't hate him, but you got to pity him.”

“Nobody likes to see a stupid guy wise up.”

“A boy does not need a father unless he is a good father, but a good father is indispensable.”

“Superstition, like true love, needs time to grow and reflect upon itself.”

“No one can tell what goes on in between the person you were and the person you become. No one can chart that blue and lonely section of hell. There are no maps of the change. You just come out the other side. Or you don't.”

“It's hard enough for a person to keep their own socks pulled up, let alone someone else's.”

“Love didn't grow very well in a place where there was only fear”

“A man who doubts himself shouldn't have to try too hard for too long, not until he's seasoned.”
