Which Country Likes Harlem Shake the Most?
21 February 2013

If you're a fan of the internet (and who isn't these days?), you'll be aware of the horrendously catchy new meme Harlem Shake.

Since it's become such a huge phenomenon, Facebook released figures on which countries are talking about it the most.

Australia has claimed the no.10 position, which was the first country to produce a viral video of the track, whereas the US is the next spot down. Sadly, the UK makes it into the top 5, but it's the Philippines which wins the accolade of being no.1. The full list is below.

1 Philippines

2 Ireland

3 Singapore

4 Portugal

5 Great Britain

6 Austria

7 New Zealand

8 Germany

9 US

10 Australia

If you've still got no idea what we're talking about, allow us to explain. Harlem Shake is a track by producer Baauer. Although it was released in May last year, it has since turned into a dance craze, with various groups of people from all over the world uploading their versions of it to YouTube. You know, because sharing's fun.

Usually, a video begins with one person (often masked) dancing to the song alone for 15 seconds, surrounded by other people not paying attention to that individual. When the bass drops, the entire crowd joins in doing a crazy convulsive dance for the next 15 seconds, wearing/carrying a ridiculous array of props/helmets/blow up toys.

It's a sad state of affairs when you wish the Macarena would come back into fashion.

P.s. Here's a supercut of some of the "best" videos.
