We all love Julian Barratt, from his star turn as one half of The Mighty Boosh to his glorious role as the reluctant preacherman in Nathan Barley.
His latest project sees him played the washed-up Richard Thorncroft, a man who peaked with hit 1980s detective show Mindhorn, playing the titular Isle of Man sleuth with a robotic eye that allowed him to literally “see the truth”.
Decades later, when a deranged Manx criminal demands Mindhorn as his nemesis, Thorncroft returns to the scene of his greatest triumphs for one last chance to reignite his glory days, professional credibility and even romance with former co-star/paramour Patricia Deville (played by Essie Davis).
It’s been directed by Sean Foley, and co-starring Simon Farnaby, Russell Tovey, Andrea Riseborough, Jessica Barden, Harriet Walter and Steve Coogan, Mindhorn is British comedy at its best – and you can see it for free with ShortList Film Club by taking the following steps:
