Let’s get the Johnny Mnemonic puns out of the way now, shall we?
Upcoming sci-fi actioner Transcendence stars Johnny Depp as a scientist who, yes, opts to have his mind downloaded into a computer.
What’s different about the protagonist of this particular blockbuster, mind (and that pun was intended), is that the hardwired power granted to Depp’s terminally ill Dr Caster is scarily all-consuming, even granting him unwavering influence from beyond the afterlife.
And judging from the new trailer (below), it looks set to be a thrilling prospect as Caster pushes himself and those he loves most, including his wife (Rebecca Hall) and best friend (Paul Bettany), to the point of no return. It also gives us the directorial debut of Wally Pfister, former cinematographer of The Dark Knight trilogy - perhaps explaining why Morgan Freeman also features.
Oh, and expect enough AI-led action to make you seriously question your relationship with Siri.
