Think of one of the times you cried. Go on, have a think. The time you are thinking of is the time you watched Toy Story 3, isn’t it? Very upsetting, a big cry, you did. What a time, that was.
Also, think of one of the times you thought there wouldn’t be another sequel to a popular movie franchise. Go on, have a think. The time you are thinking of is the time you thought there wouldn’t be another Toy Story sequel, isn’t it? Well, you were wrong, big boy! There’s going to be a Toy Story 4 and there’s nothing you can do about it (although you probably already knew this - it was announced a while back).
Anyway, Tim Allen, the human voice of Buzz Lightyear, intergalactic space toy, has been bigging it up, and whoop-dee-doo, it’s another film to make you cry and feel terrible, great! Speaking on ‘The Talk’ in the US, he said:
“I gotta resist getting emotional. I don’t want to give it away, but this is an incredibly great story.
“It is so emotional, it’s so funny, it’s so big, the idea they’ve come up with, I’m startled. I couldn’t even get through the last scene.
“I would love to be a Washington leaker. I just can’t do it. I can’t give any more away.
“They’ve got great characters but a couple of scenes toward the end were really hard to get through.”
Brilliant, more upset. Can’t make an animated film anymore without it being a gut-punch! But more importantly what is the thing that’s going to punch us in the gut? Is Tim Allen basically saying the thing we fear the most: Buzz dies (actually, it’d be worse if Woody dies but still, Buzz is a pretty big deal).
If he is trying to suggest that, and it seems like he probably is, he’s not doing very well to not give the game away.
“I couldn’t even get through the last scene” is what he said.
Is he saying that because he, Tim Allen, voice of Buzz Lightyear, literally didn’t get through the final season. Holy moly. Way to punch us in the feels Tim. Is that even possible? He is a lifeless living toy after all, can he truly die? Yes, probably.
Either way, Toy Story 4 is set for next year, after being pushed back from its original release date of 2017, due to rumours that three quarters of the script was shelved. So, a good nine years after the last instalment (which was a good 11 years after Toy Story 2), we’ll finally find out what the gang have been up to - with this specific sequel focusing on the team trying to find Bo Peep, Woody’s love interest, who was given away back in Toy Story 2.
The film is set to hit UK cinemas June 21. Better stock up on extra-thick tissues. For crying.
