With a long and proud tradition of satirising politics, we’re glad to see the writers of The Simpsons haven’t failed to bring the batch of current US Presidential hopefuls back down to earth with a bang. Quite a few in fact, with screams thrown in too.

For in the latest episode, The Hateful Debate, the fractious war of words between candidates takes on a much more physical level as a live studio debate turns into a sort of constitutional death sport - albeit all in the head of Marge. First starting off as a well-meaning sing song, it isn't long before anarchy reigns:

Jeb Bush kicks Donald Trump in the crotch, Hilary Clinton goes full on Godfather, strangling her Democrat rival Bernie Sanders with her necklace and coldly telling him, “Goldman-Sachs says Hello”, while the rest just act up.

We're not sure if it'll have any effect on the polls, but let's be honest, making Donald Trump seem more cartoonish than he already is could be viewed as an achievement in itself.

Matt Groening for President.
