This incredible Rembrandt painting was 'painted' by a computer
07 April 2016

First they came for our jobs, then they started beating us at our own games - now our computer overlords are creating artwork on a par with old masters.

The Next Rembrandt project has been put together by ING, Microsoft, the Delft University of Technology and several museums. Its aim: to see if a computer program can be built that can analyse the 'data' of a grand master - from their colour palette to their brush style - and recreate their work on a 3D printer.

The project has seen the entire work of Rembrandt van Rijn’s analysed by the program, before being turned into a physical reality. While it fools us, it won't fool an art expert - but just look at it! That was made by a machine!

Head over to The Next Rembrandt site to find out more, and watch a brilliant introduction to the project below.
