Who? Yonaka
What’s the story? Brighton sparked off the rock revival by birthing Royal Blood and now there's another guitar band with huge potential from the seaside in the shape of Yonaka. Having played with the likes of Drenge and Killing Joke, and built an underground following to match, they now unleash their debut single Ignorance. A restrained verse gives way to a banging chorus which has serious radio potential, with Theresa Jarvis' bluesy vocals blasting out throughout. Some welcome riffing heralds the middle eight before that massive chorus hits again. They probably won't like the comparison but there are definite shades of the post-punk stylisings of early U2 in here, as well as plenty of contemporary influences. A seriously impressive debut.
For fans of: Royal Blood, U2, Alabama Shakes
In three words: Rock revival continues
