Who? The Hummingbirds
What’s the story? There's something in the water in Merseyside - or maybe it's just those docks welcoming in newcomers, and new sounds from afar - but the area has always exhibited a distinct love of Americana, from a little known band we're tipping to do well called The Beatles, through to the likes of the Coral and a host of other smaller bands from the area. Next to unashamedly take inspiration from this musical heritage are The Hummingbirds, a five piece who have just released their debut album Pieces of You. This track, Knocking on my Door, shows what they're all about - a no-nonsense two and a half minutes of sweet harmonies, strong melody and a jaunty (a word that does not get used nearly enough) groove pushing the track forward. It's irresistible stuff - and be sure to check them out live over the coming months.
For fans of: The Coral, Blossoms, The Beatles
