The ShortListen: Klangstof (no. 237)

Ethereal indie from new Dutch artist

The ShortListen: Klangstof (no. 237)
25 January 2016

Who? Klangstof

What’s the story? Klangstof is the compound moniker ('klang' means echo in Norwegian, and 'stof' is dust in Dutch) of a mysterious new Norwegian-raised, Dutch-based artist, formerly a member of the successful Dutch indie act Moss before choosing to go it alone. And it could prove to be an excellent decision on the basis of this excellent debut track; a real quality piece of writing and production, which spends its first half with gentle indie chords, soft vocals and 808 drums, before launching into an epic widescreen electronic second half. There's a whole host of influences in here, both guitar-based and electronica; moreover - even though X Factor has forever ruined the word - it's a real journey. Take a ride with us.

For fans of: Radiohead, Kraftwerk, Foals

In three words: Shimmering ethereal indie
