Who? Embers
What’s the story? Appropriately enough, given their name, Manchester-based quartet Embers shone brightly but briefly a couple of years ago with a few great tracks and some incendiary live shows, before the flames died down to nothing. However, they're back at last, with a track full of intent and ambition. It's a slow-burning (sorry, we'll stop with the metaphors soon) track, which builds and builds, staying nicely menacing throughout before the vocals finally let go at 2:45 and the whole thing explodes. If the Cooper Temple Clause reformed and teamed up with Sigur Rós, it'd probably sound a bit like this. Magnificently and genuinely epic - we're looking forward to plenty more new music from these guys.

In three words: Dark indie post-rock
