Die-hard fans of the original, look away now. The Point Break remake is going ahead, and it has a director in place.
That man is cinematographer Ericson Core (The Fast and the Furious/Daredevil), with the new screenplay being written by Kurt Wimmer (Total Recall, Salt).
The new version is to be set in the world of international extreme sports, rather than surfing - a move sure to please the legions of Point Break enthusiasts out there. Although the plot will still revolve around an FBI Agent infiltrating a crime ring.
Kathryn Bigelow, who directed the original, has since gone on to direct The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty.
Shooting is scheduled to start before the end of the year, with a 2014 release likely. It joins other forthcoming remakes, including Jumanji, Dirty Dancing, Robocop, Carrie and Oldboy.
