Jaws beer can gets re-release

You’re going to need a bigger bowl of snacks.

To mark the 39th anniversary (no, we’ve no idea why they couldn’t wait a year, either) of Steven Spielberg’s classic thriller Jaws, Narragansett Beer are re-releasing those vintage cans seen chugged by the hardy hunting crew in the film.

Chances are you'll remember it being the same can that so churlishly crushed by Robert Shaw’s Captain Sam Quint in a display of machismo to get under the skin of Richard Dreyfuss’s marine scientist Matt Hooper, whose hilarious response was to break his Styrofoam cup.

And much like the wily old Quaint, there’s something unfussy and ruggedly simplistic about the ale itself, hardly different to the drop he would have tasted all those years ago on account of using the same basic mixture of corn, hops and malts.

For this summer only, the brewing firm will package all of their wares with the retro design, which should have film and ale fans in a lather alike. Even Sheriff Brody would drink to that.
