Call us deliberately contrary but we've got a soft spot for incredibly unconventional movie romances. So while you won't see us rewatching Pretty Woman any time soon, we'd happily take another dose of Ryan Gosling falling for a blow-up doll in Lars and the Real Girl.
On a similarly bizarre and potentially brilliant note, a new trailer has emerged for Her, the new film from Being John Malkovich director Spike Jonze. Like that film, it takes an equally gonzo premise and fills it with a set of damn fine actors.
This time, we follow the story of Ted, played by Joaquin Phoenix, who falls for, wait for it, a computer. Well, a computer voiced by Scarlett Johansson. Able support is provided by Amy Adams, Rooney Mara and Olivia Wilde.
The trailer makes it look like an instant winner, albeit for those of a certain disposition.
Her hits cinemas later this year

As Content Director of Shortlist, Marc likes nothing more than to compile endless lists of an evening by candlelight. He started out life as a movie writer for numerous (now defunct) magazines and soon found himself online - editing a gaggle of gadget sites, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World and Tom's Guide UK. At Shortlist you'll find him mostly writing about movies and tech, so no change there then.
