See Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy for free with ShortList Film Club
Kick off your shoes and pop a sandpit under your desk; the latest ShortList Film Club screenings are here, and the film we’ve chosen will make flowers bloom on your shirt and pop a sailor’s hat on your noggin. Love & Mercy is the story – or rather, two chapters of the story – of The Beach Boys’ tormented genius Brian Wilson.
The Sixties had free love; but we’re giving you free films, courtesy of our sponsored_longform with Stella Artois.
Love & Mercy, in cinemas 10 July, takes two fine actors – Paul Dano and John Cusack – and turns them into Wilson during two controversial periods of his life. Cusack is an older Wilson, in the grip – or so it seems – of controversial therapist Eugene Landy, hired by Wilson’s family.
Dano is the younger Wilson at his creative best, whipping up a frenzy as he creates masterpiece album Pet Sounds. We also see his uneasy relationship with his father and one-time manager of The Beach Boys, Murry Wilson (no relation to the Cast Away volleyball), plus early battles with mental illness.
And if there’s one reason to go and see this film – we emphasise, for free – then it’s to hear that genius in glorious surround sound at one of the six screenings we’re holding around the country. Literally good vibrations.
The next batch of tickets will be released on 1 July at 3pm right here
