We’re not even halfway through 2017, but Wes Anderson is already staking a claim for the best film of next year.
The Moonrise Kingdom director has begun work on upcoming feature Isle of Dogs and enlisted a cast so impressive it verges on taking the piss.
And now the hype train is properly kicking into gear with the double announcement of a new poster and a release date for the animated comedy.
It follows an earlier announcement in which lead voice actor Edward Norton made a guest appearance, and shows the scale of the operation.
We’ve been waiting a long time for Anderson to return with a feature-length film – Isle of Dogs is his first since 2014’s The Grand Budapest Hotel and his first animation since Fantastic Mr Fox all the way back in 2009.
It has been given a North American release date of April 20, 2018, while it’s probably easier at this stage just to list the major names who aren’t involved in the production.
Isle of Dogs is set in Japan, features all your favourite Wes Anderson faves like Norton, Bill Murray and Frances McDormand (as well as Yoko actual Ono), and is less than a year away.
