Well that happened.
In what will surely go down as the biggest screw up in Oscars history, the La La Land team were already deep into their acceptance speeches for Best Picture when they realised they hadn’t actually won.
Warren Beatty was given the wrong card – the one for Emma Stone’s Best Leading Actress award – and chaos ensued. It was pretty shitty both for the La La Land team and everyone involved with Moonlight – the deserving winners who had their big moment taken from them a little bit.
For everyone else though, it was hilarious – and the best bit about it all? The reactions of La La Land’s two main stars, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, who took the news in very different ways.

Despite clearly being pretty shocked by the whole thing, Emma Stone took it all very well (though it probably helped that she’d literally just won her own Oscar a few minutes ago).
She said in her post-show press conference: “I fucking loved Moonlight. God, I love Moonlight so much! I’m so excited for Moonlight! And, of course, it was an amazing thing to hear La La Land. I think we all would have loved to win Best Picture.
“But we are so excited for Moonlight. I think it is one of the best films of all time. So I was pretty beside myself.”
Meanwhile Ryan Gosling seems to just find it all hilarious.
