If, however, you’re randomly hoping for a tensely energetic, awards-baiting drama concerning a bullying music professor and his attempts to hone the raw talents of a capricious young drummer, then you've come to the right place.
Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, it sees Miles Teller as the wunderkind and J.K. Simmons, fully due a fleshed-out role in a major picture after so many brilliant supporting roles of late, as the intense mentor, sparking off each other brilliantly. Another thing, it's intense.
