What number Rocky film are we on? Seven? Can Sly even count that high any more?
Deadline are reporting that MGM have lined up Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) to direct Creed, a Rocky spinoff project.
Actor Michael B. Jordan (who previously starred in Coogler's Fruitvale Station) will step into the ring as the grandson of Apollo Creed. The film also sees Sylvester Stallone return, dusting off Rocky's training mitts as he reluctantly comes out of retirement to help train the young Creed as he sets about reaching his grandfather's heights.
We're hoping Creed will punch above its weight, tapping into the Apollo magic that brought huge success to the early Rocky films. With original Rocky producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff on board, Creed could be a contender - certainly more so than the forthcoming Rocky musical, surely?
