Rock n roll's greatest golf handicaps

It's not all mosh, mosh, mosh

21 February 2011

Rock'n'Roll, from the outside looking in, can appear like a life of 24 hour debauchery. But a certain few find time (and money, of course) to master the finer things in life. Like art collecting, fine wine tasting and wiping the floor with one another over 18 holes. Observe...

ADRIAN YOUNG

Handicap: 1.3 As well as almost playing off scratch, the drummer from Gwen Stefani’s occasional ska-rock outfit No Doubt lives next to a golf course in California’s Long Beach.

ALICE COOPER

Handicap: 5.3 Mr Cooper is not just brilliant at golf, he claims it saved his life. Don’t believe us? It’s all there in his memoirs: Alice Cooper: Golf Monster – A Rock ’n’ Roller’s 12 Steps To Becoming a Golf Addict.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE

Handicap: 6 He’s bringing sexy back – to golf, that is. Timberlake once reportedly said he’ll be pro by the time he’s 30. He is. He's not. He still wins.

ROBBY KRIEGER

Handicap: 6.8 The guitarist from classic rockers The Doors is a member at the Riviera Country Club in Florida. He does not sing, “This Is The End,” at the 19th hole.

ROGER WATERS

Handicap: 11.7 The former Pink Floyd singer/songwriter plays at Sunningdale in Berkshire, one of the world’s best golf courses. Sadly, there is simply no room for a cheap ‘dark side of the moon’ joke.

TICO TORRES

Handicap: 12.1 Bon Jovi's drummer learnt how to play from none other than the legend Willie Nelson, who owns his own course in Texas.

SNOOP DOGG

Handicap: 18 The hip-hop icon says he shoots "about 90" and appeared in a gold advert alongside former Chrysler chairman Lee lacocca. (Pictured: YouTube.com)

EDDIE VAN HALEN

Handicap: 18 Van Halen’s guitarist and co-founder is a member at the Lakeside golf course in Essex. He even used Maximum Golf magazine to tell the world he had cancer.

MEAT LOAF

Handicap: 24 Never underestimate The Loaf. He took time out off recording Bat Out Of Hell III to play at the Celebrity Ryder Cup one year.

MICHAEL ‘FLEA’ BALZARY

Handicap: 25 The bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers regularly plays at Malibu County Golf Club. He also plays the trumpet.
