Stairs - the one surefire way of keeping humans ahead of robots.

Alas, that last safety net has been removed with the mechanical menaces now able to bundle up stairs like boozed up maniacs.

With funding by the US Department of Defense's Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) the walking two-legged PETMAN humanoid robot is the stuff of nightmares. "PETMAN will balance itself and move freely; walking, crawling and doing a variety of suit-stressing calisthenics during exposure to chemical warfare agents," said its creator at Boston Dynamics, neglecting to mention its desire to be drunk 24/7.

"The robot will have the shape and size of a standard human, making it the first anthropomorphic robot that moves dynamically like a real person," they say.
