'In Space, no one can hear you scream,' warned the tagline of Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi classic Alien.
Well, more than three decades on and it now appears the veteran director is finally putting this theory into practise, screening his latest sci-fi space-based blockbuster for astronauts on board the International Space Station.
Based on Andy Weir’s book of the same name, The Martian stars Matt Damon as the astronaut stranded on Mars when a mission to the red planet takes a turn for the worst – and ahead of general release, Scott's film been beamed some 240 miles up in the sky for NASA astronauts Kjell Lindgren and Scott Kelly.
Tweeting themselves getting comfy for the screening a few days ago, the pair looked to be having a great time.
Much as we wouldn’t recommend watching Titanic during a cruise, or Passenger 57 as a spot of in-flight entertainment on a long-haul, you have to hand it to the spacemen who clearly don't mind watching a movie boasting large dollops of peril, mismanaged landings and epic levels of homesickness.
If you don’t want to get to cinemas to see it, at least now you know streaming the movie is totally legal – so long as you’re in space.
