The greatest player of all time?

Pelé film announced

Any football fan to have spent more than 90 minutes (plus stoppage time) in likeminded company will have inevitably shared their thoughts on the following: Pelé, Messi or Best?

Imagine Entertainment and Seine Pictures have pinned their colours to the mast, announcing a new biographical film of “the greatest player that ever lived”, Pelé, set to be written and directed by Michael and Jeff Zimbalist (whose previous film, The Two Escobars, was nominated for an Emmy. We haven’t seen it either).

The film, currently in pre-production, will tell the story of Pelé’s rise from an impoverished youth to international superstar, from learning his skills with futebol de salão, to leading his country to its first world cup victory in 1958.

The man himself will be involved with the project as an executive producer, and will be on hand to promote the film at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

Filming is set to begin in August 2013. Thoughts on who’ll be donning the golden number 10? Is he the greatest? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
