Hacking, whistle blowing, murky American privacy policies - when Edward Snowden lifted the lid on the NSA's surveillance activities, you just knew a big budget film was in the offing.
No stranger to weighty political flicks, news comes from The Guardian that Oscar-winning Oliver Stone ("Nixon," "Platoon," "W" and "JFK") is set to direct a script adapted from The Snowden Files by The Guardian's Luke Harding.
"This is one of the greatest stories of our time, a real challenge," Stone said in a statement which confirmed that The Guardian would be working with the director on the film.
Production is set to begin before the close of 2014, putting the film on course to be finished ahead of Sony Picture's adaptation of Glenn Greenwald's No Place To Hide, which also follows the Snowden/NSA debacle.
