You'd be forgiven for hearing the words "movie based on a video game" and running for the hills. After enduring Super Mario Bros, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Street Fighter, Doom and, well, pretty much any other example you can think of, it's impossible not to be a sceptic about it all.
But, we have reason to be hopeful. Michael Fassbender, aka the star of every other film you've seen in the past six months, has signed on to star and co-produce a big screen version of Ubisoft franchise Assassin's Creed.
The Prometheus star will be taking on the lead role in the independently-produced film which, like the games, is expected to follow a man who discovers his ancestors were trained assassins. Time travel and ass-kicking soon follow.
The head of Ubisoft claims that Fassbender was their "first choice" to star.
After already starring in five films this year, Fassbender will next be seen alongside Brad Pitt in Twelve Years A Slave and Brad Pitt again in Ridley Scott's The Counselor.
You can see a suitably cinematic trailer for Assassin's Creed 3: Revelations below which should give you an idea of what to expect.
