Metal Gear Solid Movie Is Coming

It's been rumoured for many years, but finally it seems that Metal Gear Solid is going to hit the big screen.

The hugely popular game franchise originally began in 1987, but gained worldwide acclaim when it transferred to PlayStation in 1998, with worldwide sales topping 6 million.

The film has been the victim of delays and dropouts, with Mike De Luca originally working on a version in 2008 before giving up on the project in 2010. The new film will be released on Columbia Pictures, with Avi Arad (Iron Man, Amazing Spider-Man) slated to produce.

This will be Arad's third game-to-movie project, following on from Uncharted and InFamous and underlines how influential the gaming industry has become - many games, including Metal Gear Solid are obvious contenders to move to the silver screen, as they already boast a cinematic feel.

Now, if someone could finally get on and make Sensible Soccer: The Movie, we'd all be happy.
