We like Martin Scorsese, actually scratch that, we luuurve Martin Scorcese. And we love dogs. Man’s best friend and all that. So, naturally, when we heard the man behind Taxi Driver, The King of Comedy and Goodfellas had held forth on canine matters we were naturally inclined to cock an ear, or in this case eye, in his direction.
You see, it appears Marty is slightly miffed that the dog – a Doberman by the name of Blackie in case you were interested - in his recent 3D smash, Hugo (seen below with Sacha Baron Cohen) has been snubbed in the inaugural Golden Collar Awards (you get the drift, best dog performances on film and all that).
He’s so narked that he’s penned a huffy opinion piece for the LA Times, in which he lambasts the decision to award two nominations for The Artist’s Uggie (he also gets one for his role in Water for Elephants), while leaving Blackie empty-handed.
He actually goes on to suggest that there’s some sort of canine apartheid at play here – stating that Jack Russell’s are cute and have a noble legacy, while Doberman’s are notoriously more aggressive and were bred for German tax collectors.
We don’t know what to make of it all. But we assume he’s not amused. He doesn’t find it funny, ha, ha. We guess he’s hoping a real rain will come and wash all these Jack Russells off the streets.
