Lenny Kravitz to play Marvin Gaye in new biopic
27 November 2012

It's probably gone a bit unnoticed on your end but that guy responsible for implanting a smattering of the 90s catchiest songs has become quite the accomplished actor in the past few years.

Lenny Kravitz has given surprisingly good performances in Precious, The Hunger Games and, most memorably, as the voice of a newborn baby in The Rugrats Movie. Okay, scratch that last one.

But the Fly Away star has just signed on for his biggest project yet: starring as Marvin Gaye in an untitled biopic. Directed by Julien Temple (Absolute Beginners), the film will focus on Gaye's time in Europe in the early 80s. According to Deadline, it will revolve around his attempts to sort out his addictions and get his career fixed with help from music promoter Freddy Cousaert.

It's not been confirmed if the film will cover his eventual shooting by his father in 1984. Kravitz will next be seen in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Butler.

What do you think? Good casting?
