Brilliant illustrations of the literal meanings of words

Word play: the witty exploitation of the meanings and ambiguities of words, especially in puns and often involving the juxtaposition of several or more words and phrases.

It’s a skill that lots of people think they have but few can actually manage without it seeming strained or forced. And that’s only in the traditional written or spoken word sense.

Amsterdam-based artist Aron Vellekoop takes the concept of wordplay to a whole new level with his latest personal project Visionary Words.

Focusing on the literal meanings of words and then displaying them in a visual illustrative manner, he’s created a series of brilliant and clever illustrations that flip words on their heads.
