A suspected burglar who was found upside down in a wheelie bin after being chased through a park has claimed that he was wearing gloves because he had just been playing in goal.
A London court heard how Cleese Buck, 22 and two other masked men broke into a flat in Camberwell with an axe, threatening occupants. However, jurors were told that, when police arrived, Buck fled into a park, dropping a mask, £3,800 of drugs and £990 in cash.
Prosecutor Ronnie Bergenthal stated: "In a large metal dustbin they found this defendant hiding. When they found him his feet were in the air and he was face down in the bottom of the bin. He said he was in the area because he had been playing football. The reason why he was wearing gloves when police officers found him in the bin was because he was the goalkeeper."
Buck, of Lynton Road, Southwark, denies aggravated burglary and possession of Class B with intent to supply.
The trial continues.
