The truth is out there. At least, it could be. It all depends on whether Fox wants to go looking for it again.
Fox has confirmed its interests in a reboot of Chris Carter's classic sci-fi series The X-Files. Speaking at the studio's Television Critics Association tour, Fox TV group chairman Gary Newman announced that there were ongoing discussions to revive the cult UFO-hunting show.
"We’re hopeful of being able to bring that back at some point," said Newman, prompting an avalanch of excitement from the show's fans on Twitter upon mentioning that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson could reprise their original roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
As to whether the reboot would follow the storyline of the original show, which ran for 202 episodes between 1993 and 2002 - spanning six seasons and a feature film - is yet to be revealed.
Newman also commented on the studio's interest in revisiting Prison Break, though stated his surprise at press rumours that the show was close to a return. "Although we’ve made it clear over the years to the studio that we would bring Prison Breakback in a heartbeat. It’s probably the perfect event series. If our old partners in that show are interested, that would be great."
We'll let you know as soon as Fox confirms plot details and dates for either The X-Files or Prison Break. Until then - trust no one.
