The first trailer for The Drop was always going to be bittersweet.
A Brooklyn based crime drama written by Dennis Lehane and starring Tom Hardy as a hardworking local barman, it also presents us with the final big screen role of James Gandolfini, playing Hardy's boss who reluctantly launders money for the mob.
Issues arise after a stick-up job sees a good chunk of the silent partner's money stolen, dragging the pair into a murky underworld fraught with suspicion and murder. Adding to the mix, Noomi Rapace appears as a mysterious stranger with a dark past, while another major theme looks to be a pitbull left for dead and rescued by Hardy's good-spirited lead.
Incidentally, Animal Rescue was slated as the original title, and given the story is from the same typing hands that gave us Shutter Island, Gone Baby Gone and Mystic River, it looks like the big man is signing off in style....
The Drop will be in cinemas later this year
