First Trailer for Shakespeare Film Anarchy

First Trailer for Shakespeare Film Anarchy

First Trailer for Shakespeare Film Anarchy
12 December 2013

The first trailer for a film adaptation of one of Shakespeare's lesser-known plays has landed and it's looking as gritty as expected.

Anarchy is a modern day version of the Bard's Cymbeline, a tragedy first performed in 1611. It stars Ethan Hawke, fresh from his Oscar nomination for Boyhood, and Ed Harris in the main roles, with support from Milla Jovovich, John Leguizamo, Penn Badgley, Dakota Johnson, Anton Yelchin, Delroy Lindo and Kevin Corrigan.

The trailer below gives the first glimpse into what to expect from the film, where a war between corrupt police and an outlaw biker gang breaks out when a drug kingpin is pushed to desperate measures.

It's directed by Michael Almereyda, who also created the screenplay, based on the original text; it's the second time he and Hawke have worked together on Shakespeare, following Hamlet, set in modern-day New York, which was released in 2000.

Anarchy will be released in the US on March 13, a UK release date is still to be confirmed.
