First Hobbit trailer lands

It’s time to dust off your leather jerkin, ragged three-quarter length trousers and hairy feet – the first trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has emerged from a hovel in Middle Earth.

Up front is Martin Freeman, taking on the much-feted role of the young Bilbo Baggins, while Sir Ian McKellen is a sturdy, steadying presence reprising the grumpy wizardliness of Gandalf.

Be forewarned, it’s dwarf-heavy, introducing a baffling array of small, hirsute, leather-wearing, hammer-wielding (and singing) men.

It looks pretty much indivisible from the Lord of the Rings trilogy at first glance, but then what else would it look like? Star Trek?

Exactly.

Oh, and watch out for the creepy ending… *shudder*

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits cinemas December 14th
