EE's action camera can stream straight to the web

Kevin Bacon's action camera certainly has some neat tricks.

Mobile phone operator EE has plunged head-first into the adrenaline-fuelled world of action cameras with the launch of the first rugged cam to feature 4G connectivity.

Similar in appearance and build to the market-dominating GoPro, the 4GEE Action Cam (snappy) - built in sponsored_longform with the visual tech bods at BenQ - boasts all the numbers you'd expect from an HD camera: 1080p video recording, 13MP still photos, room for 64GB of internal storage and a set of cases for knocks, bruises and underwater escapades. An accompanying 'Viewfinder' watch allows users to see what they're filming and control recording.

Unlike the standard line of GoPro cameras, the 4GEE can broadcast its footage straight to the web.

The broadcast function is powered by 'skeegle', a service similar to the likes of Periscope and Meerkat. By inviting friends to your skeegle account, you'll be able to share a link to your live broadcast, allowing them to watch you descend/hurtle/fall toward an inevitable injury. Streams can last up to 10 minutes, with quality limited to 720p, and users will have to buy an EE subscription to use the camera's 4G connectivity.

GoPro footage can be broadcasted live with workarounds, such as pairing the camera to smartphones armed with a broadcasting app such as LiveStream, but EE's new solution will be the most straightforward way to broadcast on the move when it launches on 16 June. GoPro is said to be working on a camera model featuring its own Sim card.

Set to go on sale in EE stores on 16 June, prices start at £10 per month for a 24 month subscription (with a £99.99 upfront cost) and range up to a one-off Pay-As-You-Go package of £399.99 which includes 24GB of data for a year.
