Much like his preference of whisky-based cocktails, Don Draper even managed to ensure his house was old fashioned.
And now that same 1914 colonial he shared with wife Betty in Mad Men has gone up for sale for a cool (because anything involving millions and dollar signs is always cool) $1.15m (£730,047). Which, if you happen to be a) upset about the show ending and b) looking for a place to buy in upstate New York, is a veritable bargain.
Situated on 90 Forest Avenue, Rochelle, NY, the 3,544-square-foot clapboard colonial comes with .39 acres of land, a bright red front door, six bedrooms, three full bathrooms, open staircase and - wait for it – four fireplaces. It also appears to have some modern TVs and electrical appliances, which surely any prospective buyer wanting to remain faithful to the show will do away with, even if it means not being able to actually watch the show.
After a hard day at the office oiling the cogs of capitalism, fooling around with a mistress over drinks, it's the sort of place Don would have loved to unwind - if this had been his actual home. In truth, the house was used for the pilot and not much more as Jon Hamm and his co-stars filmed the interior shots on set in LA, with most of the show's exterior house shots using a house in the neighbouring Californian city of Pasadena.
Yet this on-the-market spot is still a genuine slice of TV history and a sweet piece of real estate. And if they have any trouble shifting it they can always call in Sterling Cooper...
Frankly, you’d be mad not to buy it.
