We've always fervently believed that pizza was good for you. But we never thought it could literally save your life.
Staff working at a Domino's Pizza in Oregon grew concerned after their number one customer hadn't ordered from them in 11 days.
48-year-old Kirk Alexander had been a regular for seven years and alarm bells had started to ring when the store hadn't heard from him in almost two weeks. They decided to send delivery driver Tracey Hamblen round to check in on him, just in case anything was wrong, as they were aware that he suffered from severe health issues.
Speaking to KOIN, the manager of the branch in the city of Salem said, “He orders every day, every other day. His order pops up on the screen because he orders online. So we see it come across the screen and we’re like, ‘Oh, Kirk’s order.'... A few of my drivers had mentioned that we hadn’t seen his order come across our screen in a while.”
It was a very good thing they did as, when she arrived, there was no response, even though lights and the television inside were on. A call to his mobile went straight to voicemail, so she called 911, who gained entry and found a stricken Alex inside the house.
It transpired that he had had a stroke and, living alone, there had been no one to help him. He was taken to hospital and is thankfully in a stable condition.
“Thanks to the quick actions of Mr Hamblen, Mr Alexander is in stable condition at the Salem Hospital,” explained Marion County Sheriff's Office.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to personally thank Mr Hamblen for his quick actions and willingness to take time out of his day to care for others.”
What a top guy.
Now, we know what you're thinking - perhaps if he didn't eat as much pizza, he wouldn't have all the health issues. But then, is a life without pizza worth living? No it is not, friends. No, it is not. It tastes good, and it'll look after you when times get tough.
God bless pizza.
