Anyone who saw The Dark Knight at an IMAX cinema will say it was a gloriously intense experience. The opening sequence of clown thieves on a tower block roof zip-lining into the bank opposite was breathtaking in the true sense of the word.
Childish squeals all round then with reports inThe Wall Street Journal (they tend to be reliable) that The Dark Knight Rises will boast an hour of sensational IMAX footage.
Warner Bros had said that TDKR would contain around 40 minutes of IMAX, before producer Emma Thomas revealed that 50 minutes was more accurate. Now we're in the one hour territory.
Director Christopher Nolan told The Wall Street Journal: "There was a huge irony that we were told it would be too difficult to shoot a Hollywood movie on IMAX. When we had this gigantic camera department, grips, electric… hundreds of people working for us.
"These were cameras that had been to the top of Mount Everest to the bottom of the ocean and into outer space, but people thought we couldn’t make a feature film. It was absurd."
The Dark Knight Rises is out in the UK on July 20th.
