Cult Movie Happy Meals

Handguns, crystal meth, bladed weapons – find any of these inside your Happy Meal and you'll be in a courtroom quicker than you can finish your fries.

They’re just not the sort of ‘toys’ that would work in a children’s meal-box. Just as films such as The Shining, Psycho, Scream, The Big Lebowski and From Dusk Till Dawn not the sort of films you’d expect to be marketed on the sides of the packaging.

And yet this brilliant series from artist Newt Clement imagines what might happen if cult films were ever to find themselves on a Happy Meal, providing us with a burst of nostalgia thanks to the adult titles that shaped our movie-going experience.

Take The Shining, for example, with its notable yellow poster imposed onto a box alongside the Grady girls on an adjacent panel, with the toy pictured alongside it a small model of Jack Nicholson’s beaming Jack Torrance with miniature axe.

Not that it's all about movies. Even TV hit Breaking Bad finds itself in the action, trading pounds of blue crystal for pounds of meat as the show gets this unlikely treatment. As does gaming horror-fest Resident Evil. A treat indeed.
