Brilliant LEGO Han Solo Blaster

Star Wars fans, down your bricks. A LEGO creation has surpassed the might of the Death Star, the spectacle of the Star Destroyer and the coolness of the Millennium Falcon - and you don't have to sacrifice the coffee table to displaying it.

In an apparent attempt to kill some time before the arrival of Episode VII, keen LEGOer and Star Wars fanatic Julius von Brunk has been perfecting his design for a life-sized DL-44 blaster, the preferred weapon of Han Solo. Writing on his extensive LEGO blog, Brunk has revealed his 'Mark II' design - and it's nothing short of incredible.

As well as looking the part - with scope and coloured hand grip built with 'standard issue' LEGO bricks - the DL-44 has its own custom-built circuit board: pull the trigger and as well as sounding the authentic noise of Han's blaster, the tip of the DL-44 lights up.

Constructed for the Toy Brick Contest 2014, Brunk devoted hours of time to building this masterpiece, overcoming numerous problems with the circuit board and internal power supply. Should anyone wish to attempt to create their own DL-44, you can find the instructions here - but Brunk warns that it's a project only the most experienced of LEGO builders should attempt.

And no, the manual doesn't include notes on whether Han shot first.
