After failing to become an action star in Prince of Persia and winning zero awards for Oscarbait Rendition, it was Source Code that helped lift Jake Gyllenhaal out of his post-Zodiac funk. He's still riding the wave, thanks to his recent career-high turn in Nightcrawler and execs are hoping to get even more out of the sci-fi thriller that put him back on the map.
Because everything is being sequelised, Source Code 2 is currently in development. Screenwriter Ben Ripley, who also wrote the first film, is back (which bodes well) while a director has been found in the shape of Anna Foerster, who was recently involved in the hit show Outlander as well as working as director of photography on The Day After Tomorrow.
While the film did seem to end on a satisfying note, there were still questions to be answered, and more importantly, characters who were still alive. Not that we expect Gyllenhaal to return but there's a better chance that Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga or Jeffrey Wright could join the cast.
The original made $147 million worldwide from just a $30 million budget, meaning that a sequel should be an easy win.
