When we were growing up, we genuinely thought it would never get better than a twin tape deck Mega Blaster (with Bass Boost button).
But things have certainly moved on, as these exquisite speakers show. Designed by Brighton-based British sound engineer Laurence Dickie, they feature a 4-way 5-driver system and 800W of pure listening power. Their unique sculpture-like shape not only makes them look incredibly distinctive, but also provides total audio clarity, eliminating the loudspeaker's 'sonic signature'. We can't see a bass boost button though, so it loses a mark for that.
The Giya speakers have just gone on sale in the UK and are available in three sizes, from the smaller G3, which retails at £25,500 to the largest G1s, which will set you back an eye-watering £43,500: equivalent to 543 Mega Blasters.
Either purchase gets the thumbs up from us.
