North America to South America... in 60 Seconds

NorthToSouth.jpg

Fancy travelling from Canada to South America in 60 seconds? Well, you’d miss all the good food, but as a spectacle, it’s mighty impressive.

US science teacher James Drake has gone and got himself one of them there ‘YouTube sensations’ by stitching together images from the International Space Station and running them as a minute-long, time-lapse film clip.

The results are pretty awesome – in the true sense of the word, of course, rather than the other type in which a great sandwich might also be described as such.

In order, the video shows the shimmering lights of Vancouver Island, Victoria, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, New Mexico and Mexico City, before taking in Guatemala, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador, the Amazon River, Peru and Chile. You can also see the yellow line of the ionosphere and other stars in our galaxy.

And it’s all taken from 220 miles up in the sky… awesome.

Really, it is.
