RJ Mitte reveals the 7 cameos he wants to see in Better Call Saul season 3

Since retiring Walt Jr Flynn’s Breaking Bad crutches for good, RJ Mitte’s not had much time for weekend-long Netflix binges. The 24-year-old star has been spinning records around the world as a DJ, walking the catwalks of fashion powerhouses like Vivien Westwood, and is now stepping back in front of the camera as part of Channel 4’s Paralympics coverage team.

In the midst of this, the actor’s still managed to sneak the odd moment to dip into Breaking Bad’s excellent spin-off series, Better Call Saul, which has already seen a whole host of RJ’s former cast mates head back in time to reprise their roles. We spoke to him to see which of his pals he’d most like to see back on his screen alongside Slippin’ Jimmy and co…

Jesse Pinkman

Jesse Pinkman

“Jesse Pinkman would be really great! We learned in Breaking Bad that Jesse comes from a very good family, and if he cropped up in the Better Call Saul timeline we’d meet him at a far happier time of his life. Maybe he’d be just a little cynical, though. He’d have the teenage anguish thing going on, working out who and what he is, and where he is in the world. It would be so interesting to finally see how he went from the piano-playing and painting kid to the Jesse we know.”

Gus Fring

Gus

“I see Giancarlo (Esposito, who plays Gus Fring) more than any other cast member. I love the guy. It’d be so good to see him extend and evolve the character - take him in a different direction and into the back-story of Gus. I’ve only heard rumours that he is possibly involved in some capacity. The one thing I can be certain of though is that I’d love to see more of the bad guys back in it.”

Badger & Skinny Pete

“Good core Breaking Bad characters, these guys. I reckon they could present an ideal part of Better Call Saul, too.”

Walt Jr/Flynn

“Well, I would like to see Walt Jr again and take up a cameo, but I obviously wouldn’t be able to play him. He was around 14 in the first episode of Breaking Bad, so he’d be like two or three years old in this. I don’t know, maybe they could put something in, but they’d need someone much younger than me to do the part.”

Patrick & Huell

“Well, yeah, that would definitely shock people but I don’t necessarily know if hiring all of the same old faces is a good thing. Like, bringing the White family back? I don’t think that this is what this is about. It is a completely different story and it keeps evolving. I like seeing people working, but it is always good to create a new genre too.”
