Ian McShane just dropped another Game of Thrones spoiler

Somewhere, an HBO comms account manager is curled up in a ball, rocking backwards and forwards as they sob into the dark.

Just days after Sophie Turner revealed a Game of Thrones season six spoiler during the Oscar media circus, newcomer Ian McShane sought to regain his own title as "actor who gives away the most about the new series"

In an appearance on the BBC Breakfast show, here's what McShane had to say about his little-known role in the new season...

"My character really is like an ex-warrior who’s become a peacenik, so I have a group of peaceful … sort of a cult, peaceful tribe, who have brought back… I bring back a much-loved character who everybody thinks is dead, so I'll leave it at that."

McShane had said similar things about bringing a character back from the dead before, but his new remark firms up details on the exact role he'll be playing - as noted by GOT-obsessives, Watchers on the Wall.

Here's the description of a role HBO was casting for season six:

  • Priest, in his 40’s or 50’s. A gruff ex-soldier who found religion. Now a no-nonsense rural priest who ministers to the poor of the countryside. He’s a salt-of-the-earth man who has weathered many battles.

For anyone who hasn't read the books, this would link McShane's role to Septon Meribald, a character who appears in one of the closing chapters of George R R Martin's A Feast For Crows, and a character called 'The Elder Brother' of the Quiet Isle - who is linked to the supernatural resurrection of one Sandor Clegane, aka, The Hound.

That eliminates McShane from bringing Jon Snow back to life, so we've still got some mysteries on which to ponder.

Now, could all actors for the new series please report in to HBO before they appear on TV? We've a feeling they might want to give a media briefing/ban them from all public appearances.
