Blind footballer scores incredible Messi-style goal in Paralympics

blindfootballgoal.jpg

Thankfully, fears that the Rio Paralympics might not be the huge success that they were in London four years ago have proved unfounded, as the skills, strength and sporting triumphs of the paralympians have thrilled and inspired us in equal measure.

Another highlight was provided on Sunday afternoon in the form of this truly astonishing goal by Iranian blind footballer Behzad Zadaliasghari who scored an absolute worldie against Morocco in the 5-a-side blind football competition.

Receiving the ball on the touchline, he proceeded to dribble his way through the entire defence, exhibiting astonishing close control - including a juicy dragback - before firing a bullet finish into the corner of the net.

Iran finished 2-0 winners, following up a 0-0 draw in their first group game against Turkey. They have one match left today against hosts Brazil - if they finish in the top two in their group, they'll qualify for the semi-finals.

Blind football is played using a ball that contains ball bearings which rattle, allowing the players to locate the position of the ball by sound alone. Goalkeepers are either sighted, or partially-sighted.

Here's hoping Zadaliasghari continues his amazing form into the rest of the tournament.
