Fine art had Baroque (nudes everywhere), music had Punk and cinema had Grindhouse - exploitation theatre in its grim brilliance.
While Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez had a go at resurrecting/paying tribute to the genre with their Death Proof/Planet Terror double, it's not a genre that's ever likely to receive the wide appeal enjoyed by the likes of Star Wars.
Unless Star Wars did Grindhouse, that is.
