In a recent interview with American TV show The View, iconic fashion designer turned movie director Tom Ford revealed that he turned down the opportunity to dress Donald Trump’s wife, Melania, a couple of years ago.

Host Joy Behar quizzed what looks like the world’s best-smelling man, asking: “We've got a new first lady, Melania Trump, and she's quite beautiful, and she's thin, she's gonna look great in [your] clothes, no?”

Ford replied: 'I don't know. I was asked to dress her quite a few years ago and I declined...she's not necessarily my image.”

Someone please get Melania to E.R, because Tom, who is somehow 55 years old, just absolutely burned her.

He also went on to say that he wouldn’t dress her now that she was First Lady either, as his clothes would be “too expensive” for someone who needs to relate to everyday people, with prices for most of his evening wear starting at around $5000. But I don’t know, maybe she could throw away some Tom Ford goodies to working class Americans, like Putin sometimes does with his pricey watches to Russian peasants. No one wants the President’s wife dressing in Walmart, do they?

Ford, who is a staunch Democrat and was a big supporter of Hillary Clinton, has dressed Michelle Obama in the past though, although he did say this was completely different as this was when she visited Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen. OK Tom, we believe you (wink wink, nod nod, elbow elbow)!

In stark contrast, Tommy Hilfiger has also recently commented on the dressing of the Trumps, stating: “I don’t think people should become political about it,” Hilfiger the designer told Women’s Wear Daily. “Everyone was very happy to dress Michelle as well. I think they look great in the clothes. You’re not gonna get much more beautiful than Ivanka or Melania.”

No word on whether Donald wants to wear Ford, but we’re guessing he’ll have to go on Mr Porter like the rest of us.

Who am I kidding, I can barely afford lunch from Pret.
